How do I install a travel eSIM on Android, step by step?
Do steps 1 to 5 at home before you leave, and step 6 when you land. Menu names vary a little between Android versions and brands.
Check eSIM support and the carrier lock
Dial *#06#: an EID means the phone has an eSIM chip. A phone locked to a carrier installs the eSIM but does not connect: ask your carrier before you buy.
Connect to Wi-Fi
The phone downloads the eSIM profile from the internet, so connect to a Wi-Fi network first.
Open your eSIM in My eSIMs
After payment, My eSIMs shows the QR code, the SM-DP+ address and the full activation code, usually a few minutes after the payment is confirmed on the blockchain.
Add the eSIM
Samsung Galaxy: Settings › Connections › SIM manager › Add eSIM › Scan QR code, or Enter activation code. Google Pixel: Settings › Network & internet › SIMs › Add SIM › Set up an eSIM, then follow the prompts to scan the QR code. Older versions may say Download a SIM instead.
Name the line and keep your SIM for calls
Call the new line Travel. Keep your usual SIM as the default for calls and SMS, so bank codes still reach your number. You can leave the Travel line off until you land.
Turn on data and roaming when you land
Samsung: in SIM manager, choose the travel eSIM for mobile data, then Connections › Mobile networks › Data roaming. Pixel: open the eSIM in SIMs, then turn on Mobile data and Roaming.
